Singer-songwriters James Taylor and Carole King have announced dates for the US leg of their much-anticipated Troubadour Reunion tour.

The dates mark the 40th anniversary of the pair’s breakthrough shows at Hollywood’s Troubadour club.
The US leg will run from 7 May to 4 July, after stops in Australia, New Zealand and Japan in March and April.

Taylor, 61, and King, 67, have won nine Grammy Awards between them during their recording careers.
“In a sense, we started our solo careers sharing a band, sharing a stage, we did a show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles that really sort of broke both of us out of the box and established our careers,” Taylor said in a recent interview.

Carole King is arguably the most successful and most revered female songwriter in pop music history.
Over the course of his career, James Taylor has sold more than 40 million albums, and won more than 40 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards as well as five Grammy Awards. Taylor’s first Greatest Hits album earned him the RIAA’s elite Diamond Award, given for sales in excess of 10 million units in the United States.

In 2000, Taylor was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. By following the guidelines we’ve set forth below, you should have no trouble designing your own custom window sticker, car magnet or license plate frame, no matter your pre-existing artistic ability.

  1. Choose colors that will not blend together and opt for combinations that are easy on the eyes. While tan on gold is not a very readable choice, if that is what you want, fine. Keep in mind, however, that by choosing tone-on-tone variations you are sacrificing readability. If your potential customers can’t easily read your custom sticker, chances are they’ll ignore it. Over the long haul, that can result in a significant loss of interest. In most cases, the farther away you can read your creation the better. Some good color selections are yellow with black, yellow with green, white with any dark color (i.e. blue with white, red with white, etc.). The key is to choose colors that sharply contrast each other so as to leap off the design. If you’re still set on using dark combinations, like intense blue on black, consider adding an outline to the edge of your letters in white. This technique allows for separation between the colors and will attract your audience’s eye much better.
  2. Choose a shape that fits your design’s intended concept; StickyLife.com has over 100 different custom sticker shapes to choose from.  For example, if you are designing a sign with long rows of text, then opt for a long rectangular sign to accommodate your lettering. Do not attempt to squeeze it all in on a square sign. Doing so will force you to use smaller letters and will result in a lot of wasted space. The same rule of thumb applies if your intended design requires several short rows of text, one on top of the other. In this instance, opt for a sign shaped to fit your lettering.
  3. Do not get carried away with information overload. Give your audience only the details they need and no more. The more you try to squeeze into your design, the more it detracts from the sign’s effectiveness. General rule of thumb: If it needs to be said say it; if not, leave it off.  People in general don’t want to take the time to read, but have stopped to look at your sign for some reason.  In this case less is more!
  4. Don’t fill as much of the sign’s area as possible. This means you shouldn’t get carried away and start adding text or graphics to every square inch of the design. Filling in as much of the space in with your text as you can could lead to busy and hard to read information.  Remember, however, large letters can be read from a farther distance.  Get creative with the space to be designed to help make it as attractive and eye-appealing as possible.  In the end the price of your customizable stickers will be determined by the amount of colors used, the size and shape of your item.
  5. Graphics, colors, borders, shadows, etc., all add their own flavor to your design. Be bold and experiment with a few of these techniques to see what you come up with; you might be pleasantly surprised with the results. We have the ability to create any or all of these enhancements if you wish to incorporate them into your design.  You can’t break the design tool, and playing around with it is the best way to learn about your possibilities.  Remember - the more colors you add the more expensive your item becomes.
  6. Alignment is important in a design’s overall visual appeal. Our design tool contains zoom tools allowing you to zoom in for details and and alignment advantages.  If the design is meant to be aligned, make sure that it is. If not, make it obvious that the design was purposely misaligned. If your design’s elements are not in proper alignment, it will show.
  7. Our final piece of do-it-yourself design advice is to examine other designs. Search for some existing designs you like for inspiration. Their mathematical metal formulas are a welcome retreat from the dumbing down syndrome that hard rock and metal seem to be infected by at times. An absolute must for fans of the aforementioned Meshuggah and all the other Swedes producing quasi-science skull crushing.

When Rosanne Cash turned eighteen, her father gave her a list of what he considered the 100 essential country songs. By way of an eleventh studio album, she recorded a dozen of them with a loose, jazzy backing band and an array of guests including Jeff Tweedy, Elvis Costello, and Bruce Springsteen.

Without that backstory, The List might seem like just another covers album, like Tanya Tucker’s My Turn, or, worse, a standards album in the vein of those Rod Stewart abominations. But there’s obviously a story behind it, and a personal connection with each of these songs, which makes her engagement with the Songbook more akin to Johnny’s American Recordings series in its scope and sound.

It’s surprising to realize that Johnny never record with Bruce Springsteen, even though they both covered each other’s songs over the years. Rosanne corrects that omission with a lovely version of “Sea of Heartbreak,” which was a hit for Don Gibson in 1961. Johnny covered it on his 1996 album Unchained, but Rosanne’s tender, understated version might even outdo her father’s.

“Sea of Heartbreak” shouldn’t lend itself so well to a duet. After all, this is a song about extreme loneliness and hurt as romantic fall-out, sung from the perspective of someone adrift and emotionally far form shore, and its lovely melody draws out its questioning syllable longingly.

But together, Rosanne and Springsteen gently reinterpret “Sea of Heartbreak” as an anthem for two lost souls who don’t know how close they are. They’re not exes here, but potentially lovers. Her voice is gently wounded but thoughtful, investing the lyrics with care and nuance as if embracing her lonesomeness provides some form of comfort.

Bruce does his best Roy Orbison here, which suits the mood both musically and allusively and lends the song a gruff majesty whether he’s backing Rosanne on the verses or singing lead on the short bridge. They make a great pair with electric chemistry, so why couldn’t they just make a full album of duets together?

Richmond, Virginia, is on Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s 2009 tour list again this year. Last year, my husband took me to the Richmond TSO concert as a birthday present. I had heard a lot of great things about their shows and wanted to experience a TSO concert first hand. We had a great time at the show and thoroughly enjoyed the music and also the light show. I do suggest that concert goers dress warmly. We were seated on the ice rink, which was covered for the event. The metal chairs made floor seating a chilly experience. The concert itself was superb and a local girl who was touring had the joy of performing in front of her family.

The Richmond, Virginia Trans Siberian Orchestra concert will be held on Thursday, November 5 at 7:30 P.M. Unlike last year, there is only one show and also unlike last year, the concert will be held during the work week

Teen actress and singer, Miley Cyrus, recently remarked in a radio interview that she would not have tolerated an interruption by Kanye West, like the one endured by her friend Taylor Swift at the recent MTV Video Music Awards during an award acceptance speech. As reported by Access Hollywood, Cyrus talked to Portland Oregon’s Z-100 radio about the incident early this week.

Cyrus is quoted by Access Hollywood as stating, “It’s her moment. For those times that you are able to tell your speech, you do it… And it’s disrespectful as an artist, and I know he even said his family would not be happy if someone did that to him.”

Cyrus also discussed the flamboyant style of Lady Gaga, who had one of the most dramatic VMA performances of the night, “That’s why people love her! Because you never know what she’s gonna do and something unique… There’s no one like her. She’s bigger than life. Same thing as Beyonce. That’s why you want to watch them. They’re so unique.”
